Many of the countries nowadays copy the Roman Republican structure; especially United States has formed the government in Roman structure. Romans formed a government where the common citizen can elect a representative who will rule on their behalf. In Republic, every citizen is asked to play an active role. The citizenship in Rome experienced several changes. There were some mandates like full citizens had the right to vote, to get into the conjugal life with a freeborn person, and involved in commerce practices. Under the Edict of Caracalla, all Roman people attained citizenship. Roman threw the last king and developed their own consul who can remain in power for one long year. They brought the conception of two consuls just to balance the power and prevent the one becoming more powerful than others.
